Krishna Kalakshetra

It is described in the scriptures that music and dancing, when employed in glorifying the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna as Kirtana, are transcendental, and they bring about a life completely fit for spiritual enjoyment.  It is also stated that: yadyapi anya bhaktih kalau kartavya, tada; kirtanakhya-bhakti-samyogenaiva -  Out of the nine processes of devotional service, Kirtana is very important.

Hence, The Sri Radha Krishna Temple, ISKCON Bangalore, has been organising various cultural events during its main festivals like Sri Brahmotsava, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, etc for the past several years. The Krishna Kalakshetra Sangeetha Seva was started about 7 years ago to glorify Lord Sri Krishna and His devotees. Artists, renowned and upcoming are given an opportunity to contribute to this glorification right before the Lord Himself. The programmes which are organized in the main temple hall before the deities also serve as a platform for these artists to please the Lord with their musical talents.

In 2010, there have been 285 such programmes planned as a part of the Krishna Kalakshetra Sangeet Seva. Every week, programmes are held on Fridays, Saturdays and on Sundays. Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana are held on Fridays and the Bhajan seva is held on Saturdays. Sri Krishna Bhakti Sangeeta Seva comprising of both Carnatic as well as Hindustani style is held on Sundays. Apart from these programmes, several special events are held on Festivals.

The Sangeet seva is a unique experience for every artist as they get a opportunity to perform before the Lord . Eminent names from the Indian cultural music scene have performed here including Carnatic musician Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. R K Srikantan, Violin Maestro Padma Bhushana Dr. L Subramaniam and Saxophone Chakravarti Padmashree Dr. Kadri Gopalnath. Most of the country’s leading artists have already experienced the opportunity of pleasing the Lord with their talents.

The Krishna Kalakshetra Sangeet Seva gives all budding artists to stage their talents. Several artists have already registered to participate in the Sangeet seva. The programme also gives opportunities for young artists to showcase their first ever performance (debut) or the Arangetram/ Ranga Pravesham before the Lord.
